Comparison:OnePlus X vs OnePlus One

As expected,OnePlus launchd its affordable OnePlus X in India. The smartphone will be available in two variants – OnePlus X Onyx and OnePlus Ceramic. Not surprisingly, the launch has thrown up a lot of questions, and much of the debate is around how it is different from last year’s OnePlus One, and why should one buy the new smartphone. We compare the two smartphones on the basis of their price, specifications and features to try and answer that.oneplus-x-vs-oneplus-one
Price: As mentioned above, the OnePlus X has been launched in two variants. The OnePlus X Onyx is priced at Rs 16,999, and the OnePlus X Ceramic is priced at Rs 22,999. Both the smartphones will be an Amazon India exclusive, and will go on sale from next month onwards. Initially, users will need an invite to buy the smartphone, but later it will be available via weekly open sales.
In comparison, the OnePlus One 16GB variant is priced at Rs 18,998, and OnePlus One 64GB variant is priced at Rs 21,998. While it started out as an Amazon India exclusive, it is now available on various channels like Flipkart and Snapdeal as well.
Specifications and features: Where the OnePlus One featured a 5.5-inch 1080p display, the new OnePlus X features a smaller 5-inch 1080p display. It’s not just the difference in size, but the type of display as well. The OnePlus One featured a LTPS LCD display, while the OnePlux X comes with an AMOLED display. The screens on both the smartphones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Under the hood both the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. One of the big differentiating factors between the smartphones is in the storage department. The OnePlus One was launched in 16GB and 64GB variants. The OnePlus X, on the other hand, offers only 16GB storage, but it can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
In the photography department, both smartphones feature a 13-megapixel camera at the back, but there is a slight change underneath. The primary camera on the OnePlus One came with f/2.0 aperture and a Sony Exmor IMX214 image sensor. The camera on the X comes with f/2.2 aperture, ISOCELL image sensor, and Phase Detection Auto focus, which the company claims is good enough to focus on a subject in less than a second. Up front, the OnePlus One came with a 5-megapixel camera, while the OnePlus X features an 8-megapixel snapper.
The OnePlus X also comes with a smaller 2,525mAh battery, compared with the 3,100mAh batter on the OnePlus One. Like the OnePlus 2, the new smartphone too comes with an Alert Slider switch at the side, which lets users toggle between the kinds of notification alerts they want to receive. There is no such feature on the One.
There are changes on the connectivity front as well, and the X is first smartphone in OnePlus’ lineup to come with dual-SIM card slots. It is however a hybrid card slot, wherein one of the slots is used for the microSD card. Rest of the connectivity options remain the same.
On the software front, the One runs on Cyanogen OS 12, while the X runs on OxygenOS. Both are based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
In the end, a buyer’s choice will depend upon his or her priorities. The OnePlus X will be appreciated by users with relatively smaller hands (like yours truly), Alert Slider switch is a good option to have, while the options for expanding the memory, and dual-SIM card slots too are considered as advantages. Factor in the slightly lower price tag, and the OnePlus X has a lot going for it when compared to the One.

That being said, the OnePlus One is readily available now, while the X will go on sale only next month, and that too via the frustrating invite system. It will be December by the time, it becomes easier to get one’s hands on the OnePlus X.
